Breakfast for Champions!!
Attention Torpedo Parents: We need your help to provide a breakfast for our “Championship Swimmers”!!
A breakfast will be held after each practice on Thursday, July 9th. Donations are needed to make this a successful event for our swimmers. Donations of bagels, muffins, syrup, butter, etc. need to be made by Wednesday, July 8th. If you can help, please sign up on the list located on the swimming filing cabinet or contact Wendy McCrory (phone/text 513-403-6363 or wendy1123@aol.com). Thanks for your help in supporting our championship swimmers!!! - Thank you to everyone that has already signed up to work at the SWY Long Course Championships. We are the largest team at champs so that means we have a lot of jobs that need to be filled. Please understand that everyone needs to help! We have many jobs that CY parents are filling that are not listed because they are official positions and must be filled with certified individuals. So while it seems that we don’t need everyone to help – we really do! If you have not signed up… please email Julie George (jgeorge@baldwingilman.com) with your requested shift (the lists are on the meet page) and she will get back to you ASAP to verify your position.
- The Southwest YMCA Swim League has modified the way it deals with missing meetings for timers and officials or failure to appear for other assignments at the championship meets. You can view the details in this memo. Please be aware of your worker assignment(s) for the meet and arrive and check-in at the appropriate place and time.
- Ready to have some fun with your teammates during taper? Come to Monster Mini Golf! Monster Mini Golf is an indoor air conditioned Glow-in-the-Dark 18 hole, Monster Themed mini-golf course (for humans of all ages!). Please see the flyer for details and RSVP to Juley Lawson JuleyL@sbcglobal.net or 513-849-9557 by July 3rd.

There are several new regulations in regard to swim suits which can be
found on
the USA
Swimming website:
- No swimmer, regardless of age, may wear 2 suits during competition. This includes drag suits or second suits to cover old suits. Wearing more than 1 suit is grounds for disqualification.
- Swimsuits worn for all 12 & under age group defined competition shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor past the knee. This means that no legskins may be worn in 12 and under events.
- Tentative entries for the Long Course Championships are posted on the meets page. Changes will be made after the Polar Bear meet.
- The VOLUNTEER SIGNUPS for the summer long course CHAMPIONSHIP (7/10–7/12) will be available at Polar Bear this coming weekend. They will be posted by the T-Shirt Table. The obligation is ONE SESSION per Family. If you are confident that your child will be swimming at finals, it would be very much appreciated if you sign up to time at finals one of the three nights—these positions are always the hardest to fill! If you have any questions, please contact Julie George at jgeorge@baldwingilman.com

Please remember that there are no parents allowed on the pool deck during
practices. We can not have parents on the outdoor pool deck during
practice. The pool does not open for membership until 11:00 a.m.
This is a safety concern as well as a team rule.
Also, there is no parking in the child care lot or the 15 minute lot. Please use the proper parking lot while at the Y.
We ask that you respect the rules of the YMCA. - Several new picture galleries have been posted in the gallery thanks to Lisa Bowersox and the photographers who helped to take pictures throughout the short course season.
- If you will have a swimmer participating in the 2009–2010 Short Course season next fall/winter, a recent upgrade to the Countryside YMCA’s systems means that families can start paying team fees for next season now at the front desk. Please be clear that you are paying for the season that begins in September. A swimmer who participates in the short course season may participate in the long course season the following summer without additional team fees. If you have just joined the team for the long course season, but you will remain on the team for the short course season, you can start paying against those fees now. In addition, any family can start fundraising for its 2009 Fundraising goal.
- Some of the things learned at the SWY League meeting
on 10/1/2008 include this new rule from USA Swimming:
And the inclusion of 200yd and 200m stroke events for the 13-14 age group at the League Sectional, Short Course, and Long Course Championship meets. These will have a qualifying time distinct from the corresponding Senior event. There is a committee working to determine the qualifying times as well as making a recommends for a new order of events that incorportates these 13-14 events (at finals they will be separate, but they will likely be swum as a combined 13-14/Senior event at prelims) in addition to putting the 400 Free Relay and 400 Medley Relay events on different days.
USA Swimming Convention Note – Rules & Regulation Change:
The following change is effective May 15, 2009, and will appear in the 2009 Rules and Regulations.
