2007 Long Course YMCA National Runner-up2
The Countryside YMCA Swim Team in Lebanon, Ohio, is one of the most successful, fastest growing of its kind in the nation. Head Coach, Brad Isham, leads the CY Torpedoes to compete in both YMCA and USA Swimming meets.
Try-outs for joining the Countryside YMCA Torpedoes Swim Team for the Winter 2008-2009 season will be held on at least two dates:
- Wednesday, 8/27/2008 at 5:00 pm
- Tuesday, 9/2/2006 at 5:00 pm
- The National Team leaves for the YMCA Long Course National Championship Meet on Saturday morning. The meet runs from Tuesday, July 29th, to Friday, August 1st. You will be able to follow along with Real-Time results (but the link isn’t available yet) or watch for the Countryside results here as the week goes on. Right now, the seed times and position from the Psych Sheet are listed. Countryside has entries in 41 of the 44 events.
- Have you been saving up for another practice suit, goggle, or a new piece of flair for your swim bag? Well, wait just a bit longer and you can shop at Kast-A-Way Swimwear’s Tent Sale from Monday, August 11th to Saturday, August 16th at their store. They will be have lots of older items for great bargains and newer items on sale, too. Just in time for the Winter season to get started!
- Thank you to all the parents for their help towards the success of the CY Championship Team Breakfast on Thursday, July 10th. It went really well and would not have happened without the great response we had from the parents.
- Our swimmers dominated most of the age groups and brought another championship banner home to the team. The Torpedoes took 1st place in the 8&Under Boys, 8&Under Girls, 9–10 Boys, 11–12 Girls, 11–12 Boys, 15&Over Girls, and 15&Over Boys groups and scored well in the remaining groups. Christian Josephson broke the League record in the Boys 13–14 50m Butterfly with his 27.70 on Saturday and Cesar Carrillo broke the Team records in the Boys 11–12 100m Butterfly with 1:10.67 on Friday and the Boys 11–12 100m Freestyle with 1:02.86 on Saturday. In addition to the performance of all the swimmers, head coach, Brad Isham, shared honors of co-“Coach of the Year” with Coffman’s Dave Mail. Full results of the meet can be found at the SWC site or on a link from the meets page
- CY Logo Silicone caps have arrived and can either be purchased at the physical desk. Cost is $13; make checks out to Countryside YMCA. If your swimmer prefers latex, they will be available at an as-yet-undetermined date.
- The entries, ψυχή sheet, warmup lanes, and estimated timeline for the SWC Long Course Championship meet are available from the meets page. The Worker assignments for the meet are now available, too.
- The “Citius” T-Shirts are here. If you did not pick yours up at the Long Course Championship meet, please send an email to Heather Wooley hbwooley@gmail.com to make arrangements.
- We are still in need of families to sign up to work
championships. If your swimmer is participating you are
required to sign up for at least one assignment. Please
remember that we have MANY official spots that have already been
filled by those that are certified so we indeed need each family to
help out with timing or other jobs that we have been assigned. The
sign ups are inside the YMCA on the bulletin board or you can email
Julie George
at jgeorge@baldwingilman.com
to get an assignment.
Thanks in advance – GO CY!!! - Thanks for everyone’s help and patience last weekend at the David A. Hewitt Summer Polar Bear Invitational. Even with our weather delay from Saturday that moved four events to Sunday afternoon, we were able to complete the meet in time for the pool to be opened to Countryside members. The final results are posted on the meets page.
- Attention everyone who has reserved rooms for Long
Course Championships at Miami University. All rooms need a credit card
confirmation. Everyone needs to double check their dates because all
the rooms were reserved for Thursday thru Sunday. Anyone needing a
room must contact Robyn Lewis by July 3rd
(by email or my cell number is
937–725–5242).
Baymont Inn 513–523–2722 Elms 513–524–2002 Hampton 513–524–0114 - Here is the TV
Schedule for the Olympic Trials that began Sunday.
This is an opportunity to see the fastest swimmers in the country compete for a spot on the Olympic team. There will be some amazing swimming over the next week so I hope everyone is watching! (Did you see the two new world records set on Sunday?)
Countryside Torpedo alums Justin Farra and Kit French will be competing at the trials.- Kit will be swimming the 100 Backstroke on Monday, June 30th
See the article in the Pulse Journal - Justin will be swimming the 200 IM on Thursday, July 3rd.
- Kit will be swimming the 100 Backstroke on Monday, June 30th
- “Citius” T-Shirt For a
very limited time, and at the very reasonable price of $10, we are
offering a Special Edition 100% cotton T-Shirt in celebration of the 2008 Beijing
Olympic Games! Print the
order form or pick up a hard copy in the bins near the Indoor
Competition Pool. Place all orders and checks (made out
to CY Torpedoes) in the “Spirit
Wear” Folder in the Cabinet, or in the specially marked bin at
the T-Shirt Table at the Polar Bear Meet this
weekend. Follow this link to see a
mock-up of the shirt.
Order Now Through June 30th! - While you may have seen the recent Cincinnati Enquirer article that listed the area swimmers attending the Olympic Trials, there were two notable omissions. Two Countryside Torpedo Alumni will be competing at the Trials: Justin Farra and Kit French. According to the materials received by their families concerning the Olympic Trials, less than 1% of swimmers registered with USA swimming compete at that meet. It has been a long time since CY last sent qualifiers to the Trials (1992), so please keep Kit and Justin in your prayers.
- Please remember that there are no parents allowed on
the pool deck during practices. We can not have parents on the
outdoor pool deck during practice. The pool does not open for
membership until 11:00 a.m. This is a safety concern as well
as a team rule.
Also, there is no parking in the child care lot or the 15 minute lot. Please use the proper parking lot while at the Y.
We ask that you respect the rules of the YMCA. - Have you ever had a difficult time finding one of the YMCA facilities in the Southwest Cluster? Did you wish for your GPS to know the locations? Well, then you're in luck! Rob Biedenharn has uploaded a file to the POI-Factory containing the locations of all YMCA-OH-SWC member locations (and Miami University’s Rec Sports Center, too). If you have a Garmin GPSr and Garmin’s POI Loader, you probably already know what to do. If not, but you think your GPSr has a way to load custom points-of-interest, visit the POI-Factory to find out how to load YMCA-OH-SWC onto your device.
The CY Torpedoes webmaster welcomes any ideas you may have about the kind of information you'd like to be able to find on the site. Please share your thoughts with an email.
If you'd like to receive an email when there have been significant updates to this site or special announcements, please join the Yahoo! group cytorpedoes. You may use the link to add an existing Yahoo! ID profile to the cytorpedoes group or you can send an email subscription request. By using the Yahoo! goups service, coaches will now have the ability to send urgent notices directly to the team.
