The CY National Team is one
of the strongest in recent years. There is only one event, the
Women’s 400m I.M., that has no CY entry and most individual
events have two or more. There is a Torpedo among the top 16 entry times
for 30 of the 43 events in which Contryside has an entry. The team leaves
for the University of Maryland at College Park on Saturday and the
competition begins the afternoon of Monday, July 26th,
with the 1500m Freestyle in which all four CY athletes are seeded in
the top 20.
You can follow the results of the CY swimmers on the CY National Team page (linked from the meets page) with links to daily results and heat sheets as they become available. - There is a story in The Western Star about the 28th David A. Hewitt Summer Polar Bear Invitational and a picture gallery from the SWY LC Championship featuring quite a few pictures of Countryside swimmers during the meet.

Karen Kinross of KandidKids
Photography has posted for viewing about 1200 photos from the
David A. Hewitt Summer Polar Bear Invitational. While she may
not have a picture of every swimmer, there is a wide variety of kids
captured. The link to the Swimming galleries
is: kandidkids.smugmug.com/Sports/Swimming,
and the password for the locked Polar Bear pictures is the team
name: Torpedoes.
Karen will also be taking pictures at the SWY LC Championship meet this weekend. -
The entries for the SWY LC Championship are mostly available on
the meets page.
NOTE: Entries for 11–12 are now included. - The results from last week’s David A. Hewitt Summer Polar Bear Invitational are now available on the meets page.
- On Tuesday, July 6th, following morning practices there will be a Breakfast for Champions at the Outdoor Pool Pavilion. (Gold group will practice in the morning on this day and Bronze group will eat before practice.) There will be lots of pancakes, sausage, muffins, bagels, fruit, and juice! (Those swimmers do know how to eat!) This is a great time to get the whole CY Torpedoes team together before championships. Please check the flyer for what to bring to make the breakfast a success. You may contact Wendy McCrory at wendy1123@aol.com or 513-403-6363 (call or text) if you have any questions.

We have a very large meet this weekend. As a result space for parking
will be an issue. We do ask that to help with space for our visiting
teams please park either in the old Wallmart lot or in the parking lot by
the FAC. That gate will be open and you can just walk around behind the
building to get to the outdoor pool.
Also, a reminder that the meet will start at 7:30 a.m. We must be out of the pool by 2:00 p.m. We have a very full meet and will be pushed to complete by 2:00 p.m.
We will have tickets available for the Chiquita Classic golf tournament at TPC Rivers Bend golf course. Tickets are $10 per day or you can buy a pass for all four days for $30. Proceeds on all ticket sales benefit the YMCA Caring for Families scholarship fund in addition to the swim team.
Thank You to everyone working and participating in the meet this weekend!! - The worker assignments for this weekend’s David A. Hewitt Summer Polar Bear Invitational have been posted to the meets page.

This is an incredible event and a great opportunity to help with this meet!
Torpedoes,
Saturday, May 15th, and Sunday, May 16th, the University of Cincinnati will host the 7th Annual GTAC Disability Open.
This is a rare opportunity to see international caliber athletes including world record holders, national team, and paralympic team members. Last year Brad attended all the sessions to cheer on his niece.
Last year 12 American Records, 5 Pan-American Records and 1 World Record were achieved at this meet. With a larger international field, this year promises more of the same.
All sessions are timed finals, and we are short SUN AM workers.
Sunday AM - 8:00 warm up, 9:00 start. Estimated noon finish.- Here are the positions that are open:
- Timers - 10
- Deck Assistant - 2 (assist with taking swimmer’s equipment to other end; help swimmers in wheelchairs)
- Drug Testing assistants - 2 must be over 18 (take swimmers back to drug testing area)
We are also in need of 4 hosts for the Saturday evening social.
There is no YMCA Meet scheduled this weekend. For swimmers needing community service hours this is a unique opportunity. Working this meet is guaranteed to inspire you. What these athletes accomplish is truly amazing.
All volunteers can contact Anne Lawley at: lawley6@fuse.net
Thanks in advance for all your help. You will be transformed.
